North American Performance Standards

North America has two main types of cut resistance test: CPP (old and new version) and TDM 100. These tests, based on the ASTM F1790 05 standard, are virtually identical, and simulate an accidental cut or slash with a sharp object.

A rectangular blade is moved back and forth across a length of fabric measuring at least 0.8 inches (20mm). The greater the load exerted onto the blade (measured in Newton or grams) without breaking through the fabric, the greater the level of cut resistance.
